This is my favorite time of year… tis the season! Friends and family who you usually don’t get to see that often come home to celebrate! And also you can’t forget the presents!
I hope everybody survived Black Friday shopping! I know that fighting for those sales and the crowds is enough work; no one wants to be in a fight with their feet too! Holiday shopping is not only a skill but it is an art; long hours waiting in lines, scooping out the early bird specials and preparing what stores to go to first. This season could be absolute torture, for your feet. Your best bet to avoid post shopping foot problems are preventative measures. Make sure you are wearing a good supportive shoe and the proper orthotic insert. Custom orthotics are great, they give you the extra support you need for the long hours of shopping and partying this holiday season. If you haven’t already visited us this year to get your custom orthotics, we’d love to give you the gift of pain free walking, running and shopping!

With Fall right around the corner and summer winding down, the scramble to get the latest and greatest school gear is in session. Back to school shopping can present a problem to both parent and child. Whether it's choosing the latest look in clothes or a new backpack, parents should not forget about the importance of choosing the right shoes.
Finally when the perfect pair shoes are chosen, they like the style, size, and choice of materials, the important stuff can happen, getting your custom orthotics from your local podiatrist. Orthotics is a custom foot support, which you place in your shoes for your pain free style. Custom orthotics are designed specifically for you, it gives a better arch support then the regular over the counter (OTC) kind. It does this by correcting the biomechanics of your walking style, to overall help support your feet, knees and legs.
Custom orthotics are useful for people: who are overweight; obligated to be on their feet for extended periods of time; or have a previous foot or ankle issues. Even athletes use them to optimize performance and enhance comfort while either in training session or on game days. Patients with arthritis or diabetic foot conditions use them for comfort and protection. Orthotics helps prevent injury or hinder the progression of existing problems, thus allowing healing to take place. On the other hand, even if no major conditions or symptoms exist, orthotics provides protection and comfort for your feet.

80% of Americans at some point experience lower back pain. Harvard Medical School published a study that claimed this statistic and found that it is the fifth most common reason to see a physician. Research has shown that much of the alleged suffering actually is a result of poor biomechanics of the feet.
Improper alignment of the feet can affect the 'kinetic chain' all the way up to the spine while walking. The kinetic chain is another way of saying the energy transferred from you foot striking the ground to the joints of your back. Imagine this: gravity, your body weight and the velocity at which you are traveling striking the ground with each step. The force created can be immense. It is crucial for that force to be dissipated throughout the body equally. When that does not occur stress on joints and other structures can occur. Ailments such as: meniscus damage, tendonitis, muscle pain and even stress fractures occur within the body.
About 9 out of 10 times, correcting the misalignment in the feet can relieve lower back and knee pain. This can be achieved with the help of orthotics. There are over-the-counter (OTC) orthotics and "custom-fitted" orthotics. While OTC orthotics can relieve some pain, customized orthotics are the best devices for optimal relief. There are 3 types of orthotics: rigid, soft and semi-rigid. The NBA Boston Celtics players and athletic trainers have expressed the necessity of having orthotics for athletes when misalignment of the foot is present. Many other team trainers such as Syracuse University, University of Florida and many Olympians are strong proponents of orthotics. These professional athletes use custom orthotics as a method to prevent injury and as a performance enhancer (it can improve speed, vertical jump and foot/leg alignment).
